The activated dynamics exponent \psi\ which relates the correlation length in glasses to the alpha relaxation time is argued to equal d, the dimensionality of the system. This result is obtained via a detailed study of relaxation processes in small systems of disks confined in a square and extended to large systems by employing the mosaic picture of glasses. It is in excellent agreement with the simulational studies on hard spheres of Berthier and Witten.
